I say yes. An assault weapon is just more "scary" looking.
You can buy a gun that functions the same but doesn't have the "assault" tag.
    See..

Same fire power...one just appears more serious.

It seems strange that ALL of the attacks (and yes they are calculated attacks) occurred with an inanimate object that somehow enters a building and goes off.

No one is seeming to blame
    1) The gun owner who allows the gun to illegally get into the hands of the PERSON WHO COMMITS THE ATTACK.
    2) The mental health official who is REQUIRED BY LAW to report concerns if the holder of a FOID card shows signs of hurting themselves or others.
    3) The state legislatures who in their infinite wisdom passed concealed carry laws with the ridiculous provision of "Gun Free Zones" which automatically created a target of opportunity. and note to the attorneys who are representing the Aurora Shooter NO HE IS NOT INSANE have him plead guilty and avoid the cost of the trial.

I think the first thing we need is an actual definition of an "Assault Weapon" because any weapon can be an assault weapon once you assault someone with it.

Maybe there is something to regulating what is available to public but unfortunately I think it is the appearance that people are worried about? What about the size of the round it uses? Should they take that into account also?

I am the owner of a carbine rifle just like the one below and as scary as it looks it uses 9mm pistol rounds and they don't currently make a magazine larger than 10 rounds for it. But yet this carbine is on the list of "bad guns" because it has a pistol grip, and barrel shroud and or forward grip. To some people it is a scary looking gun. Why buy it? I bought it because I wanted a rifle for target shooting, it fit into my budget at the time and uses the same size rounds as my pistol.

Who knows where this will go.

A gaming console should be about gaming first. Anything extra is great but it is like the extras on the cheeseburger. -anon

I say we ban assault hammers and assault slippery floors.
